Poltergeists

A poltergeist is usually more of a negative energy than a spiritual entity. They can be mischievous and occasionally malevolent. Poltergeists usually make their presence known by making noises, moving objects, and assaulting people and animals. The term "poltergeist" comes from the German poltern, "to knock," and geist, "spirit" and they are also referred to as being "noisy ghosts". Some cases of poltergeists that remain unexplained and may involve actual spirits.

In other cases the phenomena may be produced by subconscious psychokinesis (PK) on the part of an individual.Included in the most common types of poltergeist activities are the rains of stones, dirt, and other small objects; moving or throwing of objects, including large pieces of furniture; loud noises and shrieks; and vile smells. It seems that poltergeists have adapted to the development of technology. They are known to have caused interference in telephones and electronic equipment, and turning lights and appliances on and off. Some poltergeists are said to pinch, bite, hit, and sexually attack the living. Generally poltergeist activity starts and stops abruptly. The duration of it may extend over several hours to several months; however, some cases have been reported to last over several years. The activity almost always occurs at night when someone is present. Typically this is the "agent," an individual who seems to serve as a focus or magnet for the activity. In most cases the agent is a factor, both those that seem paranormal or that may be caused by human PK. The agent is usually an adolescent male or female under the age of twenty. Anyone who happens to experience any type of poltergeist activity should consult a professional Paranormal Investigator to help document the claims and also to be sure there isn't something a lot more malevolent involved. Many times poltergeist cases have been mistaken for demonic activity which can be much more damaging and frightening to those experiencing it.

Demonic Haunting

Demonic hauntings are the nastiest of all paranormal activity. Also known as inhuman hauntings, these creatures of the underworld feed off of negative energy and can attatch themselves to people and homes as well. They can make themselves known anywhere and at any time if given the opportunity to do so. Demons will gladly accept any invitation given to them and most of the time people don't even realize they opened the door for them to come in until it's too late. Anyone who experiments with the occult is prone to this form of haunting. Occult experimentation can be anything from satanic worship and rituals, witchcraft, seances, black magic, and something as simple as playing around with a ouija board or tarot cards. Many times people may move into a home where these activities had taken place in the past leaving the demonic entities behind to inhabit the home they are about to live in. It usually doesn't take long for the entities to make themselves known to the poor unsuspecting homeowners who are about to endure their evil presence. Many times these inhuman hauntings may appear harmless at first.

Little things might happen around the home to get your attention but since they feed on fear it is usually children in the home who have the first real experiences with them. Many people believe the reason behind them targeting children first is because a child has more purity and faith in them than adults do and in order for the demonic entities to grow stronger they have to negate the pure innocence of the child. They may harm the child by scratching them and there are documented cases of large claw scratches appearing on children mostly at night when the child is asleep. The parents may notice changes in the childs mood and behavior as the entity takes control of them. This can sometimes even lead to demonic posession of the child as the inhuman spirit attatches itself to them. Demons will attatch themselves to whoever they feel is the weakest person in the home and the easiest for them to take control of. Children are normally easily persuaded by these entities and are sometimes mistaken by the parents as imaginary friends the child made up to have someone to play with. To the child they may appear friendly and as the bond between them grows the child is more likely to obey what they are told to do by the entity allowing it to eventually take control of them. Demonic spirits can make themselves known to adults as well. They may become more aggressive towards adults than children and they are usually accompanied by a horrible smell of decomposing flesh and / or burning sulpher. Like a poltergeist they also have the ability to move objects at will and attack people with them. These entities do have the ability to cause harm or death to anyone who stands in their way. Anyone who experiences a demonic haunting is never safe from them. Even fleeing the home doesn't always work because they can attatch themselves to you and follow you wherever you go. The only way to eliminate a demonic entity is through the church. The home will have to be exorcised and in many cases the occupants may need to have an exorcism done on them as well. Never ever try to take on a demonic entity yourself unless you are a licensed demonologist sanctioned by the church. Even then it is still not recommended to do it alone. These entities are pure evil sent directly from hell and they have the power to take control if not taken seriously. Gods love and protection is their only weakness and they have no power to fight against it, but they will go down kicking and screaming and they will not leave without a fight. God bless anyone who has to endure this vial form of haunting. Stay strong in your beliefs and don't allow the evil to take control in any way. Remember, demons are weak in the presence of God and they cannot do any harm to anyone who firmly believes in him. God will protect you from these evil beings as long as you allow him to. It is written in the Holy Bible, touch neither my servants nor my property. We are Gods property, he is our creator and evil cannot touch his property without the intervention of his love for us. He gave his only begotten son to die for our sins, therefore demons have no control over anyone who accepts God presence into their lives.

Nature Spirits

Nature spirits have roamed the earth for thousands of years.They are known as the protectors of land, sea,and air. Rarely seen by the human eye, they are easy to dismiss by skeptics and even some believers in paranormal phenomenon. Nomes, fairies, leprichans, and dryads or tree spirits are perfect examples of nature spirits. There are ancient native american beliefs in river spirits as well and I personally witnessed a haunting by something I had never seen or heard of before in a house built close to the Mississippi River and it took a local tribe of Native Americans to expell the spirit from the home and send it back to it's home on the banks of the river where it belongs.

I am still entriqued by the experience to this day and it opened my eyes to become a believer in nature spirits. I'm not in any way an expert when it comes to nature spirits and being they are rarely seen, I don't believe anyone else is an expert on this phenomenon either. All I can tell you about them is what was handed down to me by the tribal elders I talked to about the subject. First of all, they are protectors of the world we live in. They have always protected this world and they will continue to do so long after we are gone. One reason they are not acknowledged is because we take them for granted and have become so accustomed to them and their work that we fail to identify with their existance. One of the tribal elders told me to put them in the same perspective as air and water. We all take advantage of the natural resources that we use every day without even realizing it, but if we woke up tomorrow and there was no water left on the planet we would surely notice it . She told me nature spirits are the reason we have those resources, and now, with the onslaught of global warming and pollution, these entities will make themselves and their purpose known to everyone. I cannot argue with her claims on this matter and I would like to learn more about these nature spirits as I find it very interesting. Who's to say they don't exist? Everyone has to keep an opened mind to that which we do not know. There are many mysteries on this earth that have yet to be discovered and I for one refuse to close the door on any of them.

Shadow People

Shadow People, also known as Shadow Folk, or Shadow Beings, are usually attracted to one person or location for unknown reasons. Often they are seen as dark silhouettes of human-shape, generally male, that prefer to watch someone unseen and flee the moment they are noticed. Still this doesn't always fit the experience. While some people distinctly see a shadowy human form others have described shapeless wispy black blobs and swirling columns of dark smoke. The personalities or characteristics of shadow people range greatly from shy and skittish to downright nasty and malevolent, with a few witnesses describing them as the ultimate essence of pure evil. Accounts of shadow people have been reported all over the world. There has been an increase of reported sightings of these creatures within the last five to ten years, though there is anectdotal evidence of these creatures appearing before human witnesses through out our history. Reports of shadow people are in many respects different from accounts of ghosts. Ghosts are said to be the disembodied spirits of deceased people and are usually said to take on the appearance and characteristics of human beings. Orbs of light, ectoplasm and glowing mists have also been associated with ghost sightings. None of which is common he occurance of shadow people.

Although many accounts describe shadow beings as having human-like form, they are generally not described as resembling actual individuals , living or deceased. It is unheard of in my experience that shadow people ever communicate verbally with witnesses. Feelings of dread, intense fear or panic and paralysis have been ascribed to the experience of witnessing a shadow person. The more consistent accounts of shadow people typically describe a feeling of dread associated with the presence of this phenomena, and animals are said to react to the phenomena with fear and hostility. Shadow Beings are said to move extremely fast and travel through solid matter. They typically are said to have no discernible features such as mouths, noses, or eyes. Their forms are usually described as somewhat thin or smoke-like. Direct visual contact is rarely reported by most eye witnesses of shadow people; they are said to usually disappear before they can be seen clearly, and are seen "in the corner of one's eye. These beings are said to often appear in mirrors. There are many proposed explanations of this phenomena. Some of these explanations are outlined here. One of the more creative theories is that shadow beings are manifest thought forms, meaning that they are collections of negative psychic energy from areas where traumatic events have taken place and evil people frequent. The negative psychic energy begins to manifest and takes on form and motive, thriving on fear and negative emotions for sustenance. Shadow beings have also been described as forms of ghosts, demons, inter-dimensional beings.The most popular explanation seems to be that they are some sort of other-dimensional beings whose dimension of origin occasionally overlaps with ours, which is said to explain their ethereal appearance and fleeting nature. As with most supernatural phenomena there is usually a proposed logical, scientifically valid explanation for credible experiences that neither vilify eyewitnesses, nor require violation of generally accepted scientific principles. Several probable rational explanations for illusions resulting in the believed perception of shadow beings are outlined below. There is a condition known as hypnoagagia (waking sleep) which amounts to a state of semi-consciousness in which a person can be thinking clearly and yet perceiving images that are being dreamed. This state is probably responsible for most so-called supernatural experiences by honest, rational people. It has also been proven recently that areas with erratic or powerful electromagnetic fields can interfere with the electrical impulses or firing synapses of the human mind, thus influencing people subjected to such environments over time to believe that they are hearing or seeing ghosts, aliens, or perhaps shadow beings. Such environments include old buildings with substandard wiring, power plants, and areas with naturally occurring strong magnetic fields. Perhaps the only aspect of alleged eye witness accounts of shadow people that remains difficult to explain in objective scientific terms is the similarity of the beings being seen in these alleged accounts, especially the tall man with a hat that is reported as often by 4 year old children as with adults. However, this could simply be a result of common archetypes (note similarities between many shadow people reports and the grim reaper) shared in the subconscious of all people, just as people all over the world report dreams of flying and falling.

Poltergeist

Poltergeist Activity: A malevolent, mischievous spirit or form of energy which manifests with characteristics such as strange noises, moving or disappearing objects, and abnormal odors. The word poltergeist is a German word, literally translated means, Noisy Spirit.

The earliest known reports of poltergeists date back to the ancient Romans. Other poltergeist records can be found in the medieval times of China and Germany. The reports indicate unexplainable events such as throwing dirt, flying objects, awful smells, loud noises, unexplained lights and ghostly apparitions. All of which are very similar to the still ongoing reports of modern poltergeists. Why exactly poltergeist activity occurs has been under debate by experts and scientists for decades. Poltergeists usually begin and end abruptly. The typical incident can last for several hours or several years.

There have been hundreds of independent studies done on poltergeists. A majority of the cases revolve around on individual or Agent, as they are called. The phenomenon seems to be linked to a type of subconscious psychokinesis (PK) on the part of the agent. The studies have discovered that most of the poltergeist agents are females under the age of twenty who are totally unaware that they are involuntarily directing the poltergeist energy.

While still not much is known about the way that poltergeist work the investigations have uncovered a link between the agents and states of poor mental or physical health. Emotional problems associated with agent personalities are anxiety, hysteria, anger, obsessions, phobias and schizophrenia. In some cases with psychological help to relieve the emotional tensions the poltergeist energies diminish and disappear.

It should be pointed out that while a majority of poltergeist cases revolve around unstable human agents, there are cases where all of the people involved are psychologically stable and don't seem to have any control over the poltergeist energy. These cases remain a mystery. Some paranormal researchers blame them on other supernatural forces including Demon influences.

The differences between poltergeist activity and a haunting can be very hard to distinguish. In the early stages of a poltergeist it may be impossible. Haunts are poltergeists do share basic aspects, (apparitions, strange noises, odors, moving or disappearing objects, etc.).

There are some points that make them very different:

Haunting: Involves the ghosts of deceased human beings appearing frequently in certain places and times.
Poltergeist: May not be ghosts at all. There are theories are that poltergeists are mass forms of PK energy that a living person is unknowingly controlling. In some cases extreme poltergeists activity has been linked to demons.

Haunting: The appearances of spirits in areas known to the deceased before death.
Poltergeist: Can be triggered by a living person's trauma in any location, at any time.

Haunting: Activities are continuous over time, concentrated in the same general area.
Poltergeist: Activities build up over time to a climax and then start over. Poltergeist energies can travel anywhere with anyone.

Haunting: Are not violent by nature.
Poltergeist: Nearing the climax of the energy cycle poltergeists can become dangerous, inflicting both mental and physical terror in extreme cases.

If you feel that you are encountering poltergeist activity don't wait to look for help. Find a priest or local paranormal research group in your area. Some poltergeist cases can be exorcised before they have the chance of becoming dangerous. If you think that the poltergeist is linked to an object in you possession get rid of that object right away. Don't try to move or run away from a poltergeist. It's a waste of time. If the poltergeist is linked to a person or object it will follow right along with you. The best thing to do is seek out professional help as soon as you can. It shouldn't cost you a penny to do so. If you find someone that wants to charge you a fee, look for someone else.

POLTERGEIST-LIKE ACTIVITY

Poltergeists (noisy ghosts) have commonly been blamed for any violent or destructive activity in a haunting. In the past, researchers believed that all such activity at a haunted location was the work of the spirits, or an outside force, but today, most investigators don’t think so. While interactive spirits may be the culprits in some cases, many of cases have a force behind them that is much closer to home.

In a poltergeist case (and in its counterpart) there can be a variety of phenomena taking place. There are reports of knocking and tapping noises, sounds with no visible cause, disturbance of stationary objects like household items and furniture, doors slamming, lights turning on and off, fires breaking out and much, much more. While in some cases, this activity can be connected to ghosts, in other cases it probably isn’t. It certainly remains paranormal though and because of this, it is also unexplained and very controversial.

The current theory behind this Poltergeist-like phenomena is that the activity is caused by a person in the household, known as the "human agent". The agent is usually an adolescent girl and normally one that is troubled emotionally. It is believed that she unconsciously manipulates physical objects in the house by psychokinesis (PK), the power to move things by energy generated in the brain. This kinetic type of energy remains unexplained, but even some mainstream scientists are starting to explore the idea that it does exist.

It is unknown why this energy seems to appear in females around the age of puberty, but documentation of its existence is starting to appear as more and more case studies have become public. It seems that when the activity begins to manifest, the girl is usually in the midst of some emotional or sexual turmoil. The presence of the energy is almost always an unconscious one and it is rare when any of the agents actually realize that they are the source of the destruction around them. They do not realize that they are the reason that objects in the home have become displaced and are usually of the impression that a ghost (or some sort of other supernatural entity) is present instead. The bursts of PK come and go and most poltergeist-like cases will peak early and then slowly fade away.

It should be noted that while most cases such as this manifest around young women, it is possible for puberty age boys (and even older adults) to show this same unknowing ability. As with the young women, the vast majority will have no idea that they are causing the activity and will be surprised to find there is even a possibility that strange things are happening because of them.

In most cases like this, an excellent chance can be provided the researcher to document strange activity. Unfortunately though, the case will have nothing to do with ghosts and there is really no way to help the witnesses (or victims). It is usually better to refer the family to a good counselor or mental health care provider, rather than try to act as a paranormal investigator. A counselor is usually the best person to provide assistance under these circumstances because PK normally manifests because of emotional disturbance.

But not all such cases involve disturbed individuals. We have already discussed that not all hauntings can be easily categorized and we must be careful not to jump to conclusions in any case. In some cases, what appears to be the work of a human agent may actually be that of the spirits, and vice versa. In addition, some genuinely haunted spots seem to be so filled with energy that witnesses at the location can manifest their own phenomena.

SIGNS OF POLTERGEIST ACTIVITY: The already mentioned types of physical activity are most common in these cases, usually involving the violent manipulation of household and stationary objects, which seem to move about "under their own power". Watch for these reports of phenomena to escalate for a period as time goes by. Also watch for a female adolescent to be present in the household or for all of the activity to be centered around one person in particular. It is common that none of the activity will take place unless that person is present at the time.
